【摘要】:Thistestmethodisintendedforuseindeterminingthevolumeandthevolumedistributionofporesinsoilandrockwithrespecttotheapparentdiameteroftheentrancesofthepores.Ingeneral,boththesizeandvolumeoftheporesaffectstheperformanceofsoilandrock.Thus,theporevolumedistributionisusefulinunderstandingsoilandrockperformanceandinidentifyingamaterialthatcanbeexpectedtoperforminaparticularmanner(1,2).Theintrusionprocesstodeterminethevolumeofaporeproceedsfromtheoutsideofaspecimentowarditscenter.Comparativelylargeinteriorporescanexistthathavesmalleroutsideopeningsastheonlymeansofaccess.Mercuryintrusionporosimetrywillincorrectlyregistertheentirevolumeofthesex201C;ink-bottlex201D;poresashavingtheapparentdiameterofthesmalleraccesspores.Inatestspecimen,exteriorspecimenporescanexistinadditiontointra-specimenpores(seeSection3fordefinitions).Theinter-fragmentporeswillvaryinsizeandvolumedependingonthesizeandshapeofthesoilorrockfragmentsandonthemannerinwhichthefragmentsarepackedtogether.Itispossiblethatsomeexteriorspecimenporescanhavethesameapparentdiameterassomeintra-specimenpores.Whenthisoccurs,thistestmethodcannotdistinguishbetweenthem.Thus,thetestmethodyieldsanintrudedporevolumedistributionthatisinpartdependentuponthepackingofmultifragmentspecimens.However,mostsoilsandrockshaveintra-fragmentporesmuchsmallerthantheinter-fragmentpores.Thissituationleadstoabi-modalporesizedistributionandthedistinctionbetweenthetwoclassesofporescanthenbemade(seeFigs.1and2).Note18212;Notwithstandingthestatementonprecisionandbiascontainedinthistestmethod:Theprecisionofthistestmethodisdependentonthecompetenceofthepersonnelperformingit,andthesuitabilityoftheequipmentandfacilitiesused.AgencieswhichmeetthecriteriaofPracticeD3740aregenerallyconsideredcapableofcompetentandobjectivetesting.UsersofthistestmethodarecautionedthatcompliancewithPracticeD3740doesnotinitselfassurereliabletesting.Reliabletestingdependsonseveralfactors;PracticeD3740providesameansofevaluatingsomeofthosefactors.1.1Thistestmethodcoversthedeterminationoftheporevolumeandtheporevolumedistributionsofsoilandrockbythemercuryintrusionporosimetrymethod.Therangeofapparentdiametersofporesforwhichthistestmethodisapplicableisfixedbytheoperatingpressurerangeofthetestinginstrument.Thisrangeistypicallybetweenapparentporeentrancediametersofabout100x03BC;mand2.5nm(0.0025x03BC;m).Largerporesmustbemeasuredbyanothermethod.1.2Mercuryintrusionporosimetryisusefulonlyformeasuringporesopentotheoutsideofasoilorrockfragment;mercuryintrusionporosimetrywillnotgivethevolumeofanyporescompletelyenclosedbysurroundingsolids.Thistestmethodwillgiveonlythevolumeofintrudableporesthathaveanapparentdiametercorrespondingtoapressurewithinthepressurizingrangeofthetestinginstrument.1.3Mercuryintrusionmayinvolvetheapplicationofhighpressurestothespecimen.Thismayresultinatemporaryorpermanentalterationorbothintheporegeometry.Generally,soilsandrocksare......
